Application design and architecture

The application is designed to provide users with an intuitive interface for collecting, visualizing, and managing geospatial data. It leverages modern mobile technologies to ensure reliable GIS data collection, seamless integration with many GIS file formats, and robust mapping capabilities. The architecture separates the data handling, mapping engine, and user interface into modular components, allowing for scalability and flexibility as user requirements evolve.

We would like to extend the use of our application to all professionals who work with spatial data or are responsible for location-based tasks. A wide range of scientific and business sectors depend on accurate information derived from Geographic Information Systems. We are confident that Mapit Professional will become an essential tool for your daily fieldwork, enabling you to efficiently collect, manage, and utilize geospatial information in a reliable and user-friendly manner.

Mapit GIS Professional is designed to serve a broad spectrum of professionals engaged in spatial data collection and analysis. While particularly well-suited for those working in agriculture, forestry, housing development, and land surveying, the application is also ideal for specialists in power industry planning, water supply and sewage systems, gas distribution, telecommunications, and road engineering. Its versatility ensures that it can be effectively utilized for spatial asset management, fisheries and wildlife management, habitat and soil mapping, as well as many other location-based tasks. No matter how unique your geospatial requirements may be, Mapit GIS Professional provides a robust, adaptable solution—even for specialized uses that extend beyond its initial conception by the authors.

We warmly encourage you to share your experiences and unique use cases with Mapit GIS Professional. If you have developed innovative workflows, solved complex challenges, or leveraged the app for specific professional tasks, we invite you to get in touch with us. Your story could inspire and assist other users—selected contributions may be featured on our website. Support our community in advancing the effective use of geospatial technologies by sharing your insights and successes.

Datastore

Datastore -> Geopackage

A GeoPackage (GPKG) is an open, standards-based, platform-independent file format for storing geographic data, essentially a SQLite database containing vector features, raster tiles, attributes, and metadata, making it a versatile, self-describing container for geospatial information used across many GIS applications for easy data sharing and offline use. It's a modern alternative to shapefiles and other formats, defined by the OGC GeoPackage Encoding Standard.

GeoPackage’s interoperability and versatility make it an ideal choice for geospatial data management. Leading GIS software packages, such as qGIS and ArcGIS, support direct access to GeoPackage files. This allows for efficient data transfer between devices for post-processing or integration, simply by moving the GeoPackage file to access all layers instantly. Additionally, Mapit continues to support exporting data to other widely used formats, including GeoJSON, Shapefile, KML and more.

Map engine

Map engine -> Mapbox

Mapbox is a powerful and flexible mapping platform that enables developers to integrate customizable maps, geospatial visualizations, and location data into their applications. Known for its high performance, extensive API support, and a wide range of basemaps and styles, Mapbox makes it easy to build interactive, visually appealing mapping experiences for web and mobile platforms.
